wwwpic5678 Real Madrid reportedly have an edge over Barcelona in the pursuit of a key target, as it’s claimed the appeal of joining Cristiano Ronaldo outweighs that of joining the Catalan giants.

What is clear is that both sides are undoubtedly in need of defensive reinforcements, with Barcelona struggling for quality depth beyond first-choice pairing Samuel Umtiti and Gerard Pique.

As for Los Blancos, aside from Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane, question marks could arguably be raised over the other options at Zinedine Zidane’s disposal too.

In turn, it’s understandable why both have been linked with Bayern Munich ace David Alaba, but according to Diario Gol, as re-reported by The Express, it’s Real Madrid who hold the advantage as the versatile Austrian international has told friends that he wants to play alongside Ronaldo.

Despite their struggles this season, Real Madrid remain a European powerhouse capable of competing for major honours year in and year out. As a result, aside from the reported desire to join Ronaldo in the Spanish capital, there are other strong arguments in favour of Alaba picking them, as suggested. wwwpic5678

It isn’t all bad news for Barcelona though, as the report goes on to add that another factor in his decision is the fact that he expects Umtiti to sign a renewal at the Nou Camp.

If that materialises, then it would potentially have a negative impact on his playing time at Barca, albeit he’s versatile enough to fill other roles too, but perhaps he’ll have a better chance at landing a more prominent role for Madrid in that case.

It remains to be seen how his future plays out, but at just 25 years of age with almost 300 appearances for Bayern and 60 caps for Austria to his name coupled with countless trophies, Alaba would be a great addition for any squad. wwwpic5678

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho explains what really happened with Mohamed Salah transfer

wwwpic5678 Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho has contradicted himself when it comes to why he let Mohamed Salah leave Chelsea in 2015. Jose Mourinho insists it was Chelsea who decided to sell Mohamed Salah - despite previously claiming 'it was better not to have Salah back' before letting him join Roma. The 25-year-old has been an absolute revelations since joining Liverpool last summer and has scored a remarkable 43 goals in 47 games this season.

Mourinho brought Salah to Chelsea back in 2013 but the Egyptian superstar made just 19 appearances in his time at Stamford Bridge amid stiff competition from Eden Hazard, Willian and Andre Schurrle. Following a loan move to Fiorentina, Chelsea then allowed Salah to join Roma on another loan deal with a view to making it permanent in August, 2015. At the time, Mourinho claimed that he saw Salah's future 'elsewhere' and that he would leave 'either on loan or sold with an offer we are happy to accept' given that the club had 'five wingers'. He even went as far as to say it was 'better not to have Salah back'. wwwpic5678

But, nearly three years on, the Portuguese has changed his tune.
"People say that I was the one that sold Salah and it is the opposite. I bought Salah," he told ESPN Brazil . "I was the one that told Chelsea to buy Salah. It was with me in charge that Salah came to Chelsea. But he came as a young kid, physically he was not ready, mentally he was not ready, socially and culturally he was lost and everything was tough for him. "We decided to put him on loan and he asked for that as well. He wanted to play more minutes, to mature, he wanted to go and we sent him on loan to Fiorentina, and at Fiorentina he started to mature. Chelsea decided to sell him, OK? "And when they say that I was the one that sold him it is a lie. I bought him. I agreed to send him on loan, I thought it was necessary, I thought that Chelsea had wingers... Some of them are still there like Willian, [Eden] Hazard and all those players already in a different level.

"So the decision to send him on loan was a decision we made collectively, but after that, the decision to sell him and to use that money to buy another player wasn't mine. But even if it was, in football we make mistakes a lot of times, so many times some players develop in way we were not expecting, some other don't reach another level like we thought they would, so I don't even think this is a mistake, it is just part of the job. wwwpic5678
